Through the Eyes of the Installer – Electro Detectors Wireless Fire Alarm

February 3, 2021

This week in our series ‘Through the eyes of the Installer’ we speak to Peadar Whitty, MD of Whitty Security.

Whitty Security, based in Gorey in County Wexford, was established in 1999 and have a successful business operating in the Leinster area. Their main services are installing, monitoring and servicing security alarms, CCTV and access control systems. They also install fire alarm products and systems.

What was the project you were working on?

We were asked to take a look at Market House in Gorey with a view to installing a fire alarm system. This is a terraced 2 storey classical style building that was built in 1709 and so would be a listed building. It was used as a prison and courthouse in the past and is associated with the 1798 rebellion so there is a huge amount of history behind those walls.

What was the challenge?

As it was a protected structure we had to be careful about the type of product we installed. We couldn’t have any wires or surface cables on show, we had to be careful with the structure to ensure the buildings character was not damaged. We could not take a chance on putting in a system that may cause any damage to the property.

How did you source the Electro Detectors product?

I have been buying product from Northwood Technology for over 7 years now. If I come across a project that needs something a little more technical than the norm, I pick up the phone to Paul in Northwood Technology. He has a wealth of technical knowledge and I would trust his advice. He has always come up with the perfect solution for me every time.

How easy was the product to install and program?

One of my team installed the Electro Detector Wireless Fire alarm system. He had never seen this product before but with the added support of the Northwood technical team he installed it in no time with very little difficulty. Because it is wireless it transmits and receives information without a single cable.

We took a look at the site and as it had cement floors and very little metal structures that could have interfered with the signal we were happy that it would work well. In fact, it worked perfectly from the very first moment.

Was the client happy with the work?

Yes, the client got the fire detector system that was most suitable for this listed building. The job was completed efficiently with no structural disturbance and very little effect on the actual building. There are some plans being discussed about the building becoming an opera house and music venue with Harry Crosbie submitting plans to that effect. Whatever future use this building will have, we can be confident that our work on this system will enhance it.

Would you recommend Northwood Technology?

I certainly would recommend them wholeheartedly. They have top quality products, I’ve installed many of them over the years and they really do stand the test of time. The main reason I work with Northwood Technology is because of the people behind the brand. The technical support is second to none and I don’t think I would find anything like it from another supplier.

What’s the future looking like for Whitty Security?

Well, we have had some pretty prestigious clients in the past. In 2006 we installed the cameras for the Ryder Cup event in the Kclub, we have installed systems for TK Maxx nationwide and have worked with Redmond hotels, Gannon Homes in Dublin and many more.

At present we are installing a CCTV system for a purpose built IT centre near Gorey. This huge project covers over 45,000 sq feet and we are installing Fire Alarms, CCTV, Intruder Alarms and Access control systems. We have a busy 2017 ahead and are very positive about the future.

Northwood Technology would like to thank Peadar Whitty, Managing Director of Whitty Security for taking the time to speak to use about this project. For more information on them check out theWhitty Security Website.
