Northwood Technology, the security product distributor has selected Pieta House as its charity for the coming year. By nominating one charity this year we intend to focus our efforts to provide more funds to them and help make even more of a positive impact.
Pieta house opened in Dublin over 10 years ago and in the intervening years has seen and helped over 20,000 people in suicidal distress or engaging in self-harm. Over 5,000 people have come through the doors of its centres in the past year and their goal is to have a centre within 100km of every person in Ireland. They provide their services free of charge and rely on fundraising to support their efforts.
Throughout the year, the Northwood Technology Dublin and Cork team will engage in various fundraising initiatives with all proceeds raised going directly to our chosen charity. We feel that raising money together as a team mirrors the values of our company of social responsibility, inclusion and giving back to our local community.
The first of these initiatives is the Lord Mayor’s 5 Alive Challenge. This is the 5th year for this popular event which consists of 5 road races held around Dublin. The idea behind the challenge is to provide a means of improving health and fitness. We will also use it as one of the ways of raising money for a good cause. Managing Director Paul Hennessylead the team in the first of the five scheduled races on New Year’s Day at the 5km race in the Phoenix Park.
The second race will be a 5 mile in Raheny on 29th January followed by the third race at the Phoenix Park on 4th February. March will see the St Patrick’s 5km in Dawson street on the 19th and the final race is the 4 mile in St Anne’s park on 8th April.
On the 1st of July the team will participate in the ‘Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle’. This event is now in its 33rd year, is the biggest one-day charity fundraising event in Munster. It attracts thousands of leisure cyclists who will experience a fun and rewarding cycle of 180km on the spectacular Ring of Kerry
The team at Northwood Technology will also participate in a number of events in the summer. New ideas are still being suggested so it will be a very busy and enjoyable venture for us. As a successful business we feel that it is right to give back to our local community. It may be easier to just write a cheque but the added team effort of raising funds and enjoying events together further strengthens our team. It has been wonderful to see the enthusiasm of the staff in getting involved with this initiative.
